Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson whose full name is Michael Joe Jackson was the 5th out of the nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Katherine Jackson.
Born on the 29th day of August 1958 in Gary of Indiana, USA, Michael Jackson, which is arguably the most renowned singer of all time, started performing at the age of five.
Michael’s mother Katherine is said to had been the brain behind Michael’s affinity in music as she taught the nine of them religious and folk songs in which all of them gladly sang along.
The father however, who worked in a steal plant had dreamed of being a musician and a successful one at that but failed to achieve this and thereby shaping and correcting the affairs and career paths of his children.

They soon formed a family band that was called Jackson boys and they excelled at talent hunts and amateur shows which was prevalent at the time.
Michael Jackson with his amazing talent and dance moves soon became the focal point of the group even at the age of five and this was why Jackie his older brother spoke in Rolling Stone. In his words, Jackie said ‘It was a little bit frightening because he was very tender and no one understood nor knew where he got those moves from.

Nonetheless, Michael Jackson’s ‘THRILLER’ of 1983 was the biggest seller of all time with sell of over fourty million copies.
The family’s fame soon exploded as they were performing all over.
They performed at Gladys Knight of 1944 and the Apollo theater and with an impressive performance got hooked up with Billy Taylor who happened to be a pianist and got a collaboration with Diana Ross later that same year.
The most unique thing about Michael Jackson is his dance steps, a style he created and made by himself to distinguish him.

Quincy Jones, a producer Jackson met while he was still working on ‘The Wiz’ in 1933, made Jackson’s career worthwhile as they released’off the wall’ in 1979. Off the wall, gained appraisal as it was sold over ten million copies. As if this was not enough, Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones came up with another bomb shell album called ‘Thriller’. This album singled Jackson out as he gained more popularity in the music industry. The thriller is one of the best selling albums of all time with forty (40) million copies sold.
It is also worthy of note that the video of thriller helped break the jinx of not playing songs made by blacks on the radio and tv stations.
Michael Jackson’s thriller was the first black music to be played on MTV base and Michael Jackson being a solo performer was the most popular entertaining musician in America.

Michael Jackson moreover, was not only a singer but a philanthropist who with the help of Quincy Jones which got reunited with him to produce the famous ‘we are the world’ raised funds for the poor and destitutes in Africa.
With the thriller album still making wave, Jackson came out with another two albums, BAD and DANGEROUS in 1987 and 1991 respectively. Though these two were not as successful as the thriller album, he still was relevant in America.
Michael Jackson got the biggest recognition and award of his life as the living legend at the Grammy Awards Ceremony and at Soul Train Awards.

All the achievements of Jackson notwithstanding, he was scandalized in 1993 by a 13 year boy who alleged him of sexual harassment when he (the boy) visited his (Jackson) home.
Although the scandal terminated his film deal and the contract he had with Pepsi, Michael Jackson still pleaded not guilty in the court of law.

Immediately after this, Jackson came out with another album in 1995 and he called it HISTORY, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. This album however, received huge criticism as ‘they don’t really care about us’ track was said to have being targeted at the Jews and the Jews did frown at it as they protested. Michael Jackson changed the lyrics of the track and later tendered an apology to the Head of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies Rabbi Marvin Hier.

Jackson’s marriage life was never a steady one as he married more than one wife. He married in 1994 and the first wife Jackson ever married was Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley who lived from 1935 to 1977. With this, Michael was accused of marrying Presley’s daughter to increase his dream of being a public figure.
The marriage never last as they divorced in August 1996 and four months later Michael Jackson announced he was going to have a baby from his childhood friend Debbie Rowe, and got married that same month in Sydney.
After Prince Michael Jackson junior and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson who were born in 1997 and 1998 respectively, were born Debbie Rowe divorced Michael Jackson on October 1999.

In 1997, Michael Jackson and his brothers got called up to feature again in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME in Cleveland. This was another boast for the jacksons as they brought out HISTORY IN THE MIX AND BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR that same year.

Michael Jackson received a hit from his agent (promoter) as he was sued for backing out of two concerts they had both planned. The money he was sued of was 21.2 million dollars.
The final hit he had was his album in October 2001 after he was invited as a solo performer to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
